  • Some Preliminary Notes on the APC Review Process
    • In order for the APC to consider a request from a curricular unit, a representative from said unit is expected to be present at the corresponding APC meeting.

    • The representative is responsible for taking notes associated with changes suggested by the committee, when the request is “approved with changes.”

    • The APC review process will result in: approval without comments/changes; approval with comments/changes; non-approval; or withdrawal.
    • When copies of programs of study are required they should be obtained from the current online catalog and refer the POS guidelines & requirement as following link: (http://www.unf.edu/unffa/APC/POS_Guidelines.aspx )

    • When completing “ Methods of Evaluation ” limit the description to indicate “ letter grades will be used .”  The instructions were written with the intention of avoiding locking a course into specific methods of evaluation.

    • The APC highly recommend faculty members preparing APC Workflow Packages to use the “Helpful Resources for Writing Measurable Learning Outcomes” on the Faculty Association website and APC WfS Helpful Page (http://www.unf.edu/unffa/APC/APC_Workflow_System_%28WfS%29_Helpful_Items.aspx)

    • When listing proposed textbooks, journals, or other required materials to be used in courses, standard reference format should be used. For examples, go to the citation guide available on the library website that explains the APA and MLA styles. The UNF library has a citation handout at http://www.unf.edu/library/guides/citationguide.pdf. Regardless of the style used, the following information must be included in the case of books: author(s), title, publisher, and year of publication. In the case of journals the following information must be included: author(s), title, publication, volume, number, pages, and year of publication. In the case of other materials, information that uniquely identifies the source must be included.
Correct Library citation listed (http://libguides.unf.edu/citationguide )

    • Curricular requests, which include the addition of numerous courses, should be accompanied by
a letter from the appropriate college Dean/s indicating that resources are adequate for the new courses.
  • APC Online Workflow System Updated Information
The recommendation was to have a resources link which would open in a new tab, so the end- user can refer to it while working on the package in the system. The ITS –APC Workflow System team had already added the tab for “ Information: Directions on how to create an APC form ” onto the main page. The tab is linked with the Faculty Association website – Academic Programs Committee . (FA Homepage.)

Email ITS if any technical problem but make sure to add the following sentence, so your request will be forwarded to Enterprise Systems:
When you submit the ticket to the ITS Help Desk, simply write in the ticket that it is to be routed to/assigned to “Enterprise Systems.

Previously, AJ was the ITS contact person. He is no longer with the University. It is necessary to use the above sentence for contact with ITS.

  • Academic Programs Review (Total 16 Packages)

    Reminder:
Any APC Workflow package corrections needed to be resubmitted on 2 days after the meeting; otherwise, the packages cannot meet the Executive Committee meeting agenda deadline.
In addition, the “EDIT” is only accessed within 24 hours.

    Comments from Executive Comte:

Many concerns were voiced (see below) including a concern about course content; a concern that courses can be repeated for too many credits (up to 12), a concern about conflicts with existing course, and concern about students paying tuition for seemingly doing a TA’s job. The committee voted to send the agenda item back to the Hicks Honors College to address the concerns and be sure that all departments or groups affected are consulted and that documentation is provided in the APC process.

As far as Honors goes, two of the issues were:

    1) Conflicts with COEHS courses that teach leadership and conflict resolution.

    2) Concerns about allowing so much credit for this kind of activity (up to 12 hours, not to mention taking the seminar course itself as freshman). This number of credits was a concern and some felt that it needs to be brought down. Furthermore, with this many credits at stake, the bigger picture of the honors curriculum (+ Honors minor) needs to be explained to understand how a student can do honors, do a major, and do the other things they might want to do .
