Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 10:07 AM by Michael Bovenzi, chair

    ⌂                 New members were introduced and welcomed to the APC Committee for their upcoming service AY 2016-2017.
    Congratulations our elected members: Dr. Nicholas Seabrook (COAS), Dr. Chau Kelly (COAS), and newly elected Dr. Andrea Arikawa (BCH). 
    Thank you for Dr. Kim Cheek (COEHS), Ms. Elise Marshall (CCEC), and Ms. Stephanie Weiss (Library) another 2-year term continued service as well as all other ongoing members:
    Drs. Michael Bovenzi (COAS), Timothy Groulx (COAS), Christopher Baynard (CCB), Connie Roush (BCH), and Thobias Sando (CCEC) for At-Large, their continued and dedicated service. 
    ⌂  Much appreciation was extended to members whose terms expire in August 2016 for their dedicated service to this committee. They are: Dr. Adel El-Ansary (CCB) and Rob Haley (BCH)

    • The Procedure of APC Workflow System Package Follow-Up  by Ms. Megan Kuehner, Registrar

    Discussion with Kuehner, Registrar and A.J.

    During the meeting, Megan also distributed the copy of General Principles of the SCNS to the committee members. Chair Bovenzi will take a look the information to see whether to post as an information item in the Faculty Association agenda packet. Chair Bovenzi also commented that revisions and updates have been handled throughout the year on a case-by-case bases.

    The following questions were discussed:


    Issue 1: Change setting in the Workflow System (system) to show the full course titles.

    Course action requests can have confusing course titles populated in the system and these course titles that are abbreviated then are used through the package. Can the system setting be changed to reflect the full course title rather than an abbreviation?
    Response: this can be changed in the system. In Banner there are two sections of course titles, a long version and a short version of course titles. The long version can be used in the system.

    Issue 2: Any noted trends in packages that are coming back?

    In the Prerequisite and Co-requisite sections, it is not clear if the program wants to remove or add, or leave as is for either prereqs or co-reqs.
    Response: adding a check box to “remove a pre-requisite or co-requisite” in the list would clarify this issue.

    Issue 3: Comment about course levels.
    The level of course is determined by the University, while the last three digits of a course are determined by the State. Additionally, it is fine to co=list levels 3-4 but not co=list 2-4.

    Issue 4: Noted that programs need to plan well in advance of course changes…
    The approval process is a lengthy process.

    Issue 5: When packages are approved and returned from the State, a copy of the State’s response will be sent to Cindy Chin for the APC records.

    Issue 6: Query about past conversations that the system may be replaced in the future.
    Response: Currently the system will continue as is. Eventually, there may be choices within the system that will need developing.

    Issue 7: Courses that need General Education (Gen. Ed.) approval?
    Response: State approved Gen Ed. courses are transferable. Programs seeking Gen Ed. approval though for a course not currently State approved will need to be submitted to the University’s Committee for initial Gen. Ed. Approval. The AP Committee will just remind the departments to have a support note from the Gen Ed or any other additional approval.

    The meeting adjourned at 11:35 a.m. and after members have lunch together.
