Mathematics & Statistics –Undergraduate

Change an existing course

(GM) Design of Experiments

STA

Senior (4xxx)

202

Action: Add STA 2023 and STA 3032 as possible prerequisites for STA 4202.
Motivation: They should be part of the prerequisite choices. Action: Add STA 2023: (GM) Elementary Statistics for Business and STA 3032: (GM) Probability and Statistics for Engineers as alternative prerequisites for STA 4202: (GM) Design of Experiments.
Motivation: This change was requested by the School of Computing to add to their list of electives choices for the recently approved data science minor, since Computer and Information Science students in different majors take different statistics courses as their prerequisites. This addition is to expand choices for the students.

School of Music – Undergraduate

Change a degree-major of an existing program
Bachelor of Music Education- Music Education Major

Summary of the Changes:
This package reduces the Bachelor of Music Education by removing EDF 2085 Intro to Diversity for Educators. Content related to diversity is included throughout the remaining degree program, and the course is no longer considered a Common Prerequisite for Florida education programs effective August 2017.
The program of study also has an exchange of semesters for when students will take two courses - RED 3333 Reading in the Content Area is being moved from junior year 2nd semester to junior year 1st semester, and MUE 3693 Technology for Music Educators is being moved from junior year 1st semester to junior year 2nd semester.
Through this package, the total credits for the degree have been reduced to 134, which meets state approved credit hours for this degree program.

A Supportive Note from COEHS – Associate Dean Jennifer Kane  (4/12/2017)

Re: APC changes, seeking your input and support

Randy,

Jeff received your email yesterday and we have concluded that if you all do not wish to offer the Diversity course we will support you dropping it from the POS. Please remember that the Professional Education Exam includes content that is covered in that course. We would suggest that you include the course as a highly recommended choice for the diversity requirement in General Education. It was just approved so students can count that course for a Gen Ed requirement. You can check the Florida DOE website for initial certification to see what they would need to take in the master’s degree for initial certification. We are happy to include any courses they may need i.e. Assessment, TESOL and Reading in the Content Area. We do not have any objections to you all pursuing that degree. Are you planning to move the degree to your college since it already exists in COEHS?

We could sit down and discuss this with you in more detail if you would like. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Best,

Jennifer
