Summary of Changes:

Change titles, descriptions, objectives and credit hours within the Regular Prelicensure BSN program. The total credit hours of 63 remain the same. The rationale is to better adapt to the changes within the nursing profession and incorporate new concepts and practice settings. The changes are as follows:
NUR 3028L Nursing Competencies (2 credits)- change the title to Fundamental Nursing Concepts and Practice and increase credit hours to 4-5 variable credits (the accelerated program only takes 4 credits)

Summary Changes:

We would like to terminate a number of courses in the accelerated prelicensure program and modify one course. This is being done to incorporate changes within the nursing profession and coincide with changes to the regular prelicensure program. The courses will be replaced by courses in the regular prelicensure program, so that their programs of study more closely mirror each other and accomodate the changes in nursing. Course Description:

This Perioperative Nursing Core course is focused on providing education to Registered Nurses who are either new graduates, have been previously employed in non-OR nursing positions or nursing students who have finished their second semester of nursing school. This program will provide all students with basic knowledge and clinical skills necessary to function independently in an entry level perioperative nursing position at a hospital or ambulatory surgery center. The didactic portion of the courses consists of 12 learning modules in a classroom setting, lab skill practice and observational experiences in an operating room. Clinical experiences (which will be developed on an individual basis) are designed to familiarize the student with the various surgical specialties and to develop the relevant clinical skills to apply the nursing process to the care of a patient undergoing elective or emergency surgical intervention. The pre-reqs are: NUR 3229 or NUR 3219C- Adult Health I Concepts of Rehabilitation and Chronic Care Nursing Concepts and Practice.
This is an elective course.
