Change a degree-major-concentration of an existing program
Bachelor of Science in Health – Health Science Major

Summary of the Changes:

This request involves a change to the Bachelor of Science in Health (concentration in Public Health) Program that will decrease minor requirements from 18 credits to 15 credits and increase the elective credits from 9 credits to 12 credits. The overall credit requirement of 60 credits will not change. The changes also include: removing the narrative text from the plan of study, adding one course, and changing two courses from required to elective. Specific changes include:
1. Delete policy narrative from the plan of study.
2. Add HSC4XXX Health Education about Healthy Eating Guidelines (3 credits)
3. Change HSC4572 Nutrition and Health (3 credits) from required to elective.
4. Change HSC4563 Dimensions of Health for the Older Adult (3 credits) from required to elective.

Course Description:

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the Social and Behavioral Core of Public Health through examples in nutrition health education programming. Students will learn the Responsibilities and Competencies of Health Educators and apply those CHES Responsibilities and Competencies to nutrition education programs.

Change an existing minor
Minor in Public Health

Summary of the Changes:

This request is to change the Minor in Public Health by removing HSC3032 Foundations of Public Health (3 credits) and replacing it with one of five current program courses. The overall credit requirement of 15 credits will not change. Students will now select one of the following courses to replace the HSC 3032 Foundations in Public Health (3 credits) course:

  • HSC4102 Physical Activity and Public Health (3credits) 
  • HSC4134 Mental and Emotional Health Education (3 credits) 
  • HSC4133 Sexuality Education (3 credits) 
  • HSC 4XXX Health Education about Healthy Eating Guidelines (3 credits) (Log# 201701-1)
  • HSC4150 Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention (3 credits) 

For clarity, two narratives in the program of study will be replaced by the following narratives:

  • Add the narrative “SELECT ONE HEALTH EDUCATION COURSE (3 Credits)” to the program of study. 
  • Add the narrative "3000/4000 course with HSC or HSA prefix offered by the Department of Public Health.” to the program of study.
