Add a new concentration to an existing program Bachelor of Arts in Education - PreKdg/Primary Education Major Early Childhood Development Concentration
Summary of the Changes:This 60 credit nonlicensure concentration is being created to meet the needs of those working in the early childhood field (such as Head Start), who need a four year degree but do not need a Florida Department of Education teaching certificate. In addition, the course title of EEC4207 (3 credits) Measurement, Evaluation & Planning for Literacy Development is being changed to EEC4207 (3 credits) Measurement, Evaluation & Planning for Young Children to more accurately reflect the content of the course. The course title of EEC3731 (3 credits) Wellness for the Young Child is being changed to EEC3731 (3 credits) Movement and Wellness for the Young Child to more accurately reflect the content of the course. Two new courses- EEC4XXX (6 credits) Early Childhood Development Practicum and EEC3XXX (3 credits) Leadership and Service in Early Childhood Settings- are being developed. The course EEC3408 Forming Family, School, and Community Partnerships is being changed to a variable course 2 credits to 3 credits. Students enrolled in the early childhood development program or the early childhood minor will register for the 3 credit option due to the content of the course and expected workload. Students enrolled in the state-approved program for PreK-Primary certification will register for the 2 credit option because the content is infused in their field coursework.(Click here for the program of study)

Change the title of EEC4207 (3 credits) from Measurement, Evaluation & Planning for Literacy Development to EEC4207 (3 credits) Measurement, Evaluation & Planning for Young Children to more accurately reflect the content of the course.
Wellness for the Young Child
Change the course title from EEC3731 (3 credits) Wellness for the Young Child to EEC3731 (3 credits) Movement and Wellness for the Young Child to more accurately reflect the course content.

Family School Partnerships
This course will be a variable 2 or 3 credit course. Students enrolled in the state approved program that leads to prek-primary (age 3 through grade 3) certification will take the 2 credit course.The additional content knowledge is infused throughout the program for those students. Students enrolled in the minor or the Early Childhood Development concentration (that does not lead to certification) will take the 3 credit course in order for the infused content knowledge to be taught.

Leadership and Service in Early Childhood Settings (3 crs)
Prerequisites: "EEC4260: Teaching the Whole Child"Co-requisites: None
This course is designed as an introduction to the knowledge, skills, and competencies for responsible service and leadership in diverse early childhood settings and provides preparation for students to be engaged, responsible, and actively involved in community involvement and leadership in the early childhood community. This course will provide the student with community experiences that will foster a realization of the importance of civic engagement to ameliorate the negative impact of social injustice, including the impacts of low socioeconomic status, on young children, families, ethnic minorities, and marginalized populations of our society.
Early Childhood Development Practicum (6 crs.)

This course will provide students with the opportunity to work in early childhood settings. Students are expected to demonstrate competencies in teaching, assessment, and meeting the needs of all children under the observation of a cooperating master teacher or coach and the college internship supervisor.
