Public Health - Undergraduate

Change a degree-major-concentration of an existing program
Bachelor of Science in Health – Health Science Major Community Health Concentration

Summary of the Changes:

Community Health is currently a concentration in the Health Science Major, Bachelor of Science in Health Degree. We would like to:
1.Change the name of this concentration from "Community Health" to "Public Health" for consistency within our Department and within the Public Health Profession. In our Department of Public Health, we also offer a Master of Public Health (MPH). Additionally, the accrediting body for our profession, "Council on Education for Public Health" also reflects the "Public Health" title. For consistency, clarity, and to remain current in the profession, we are requesting to update the name of our current concentration to a more recognizable one in the field, "Public Health." With the approval of this change, our undergraduate concentration, masters program, department, and accrediting body will collectively reflect the "Public Health" profession.
2. Replace HSA 4553, Health Law and Ethics, currently required in our program under "core requirements" with HSA 4111, U.S. Health Care System. HSA 4111 addresses more Public Health competencies identified by our accrediting body than does HSA 4553. Faculty in both the Community/Public Health program and the Health Administration program believe HSA 4111 better meets the needs of Community/Public Health students.
