Summary of the Changes:
With the recent addition of new faculty we are now able to expand our course offerings for graduate students. As a part of this request two new courses will be created (Critical Skills in Science BSC 6xxx and Aquatic Toxicology BSC 6xxx). Aquatic Toxicology (BSC 6xxx) will serve as a new elective course while Critical Skills in Science (BSC 6xxx) will be required for the Master of Science in Biology. These changes will not modify the credit hours required to complete the degree.  (Click here for the program of study)

Course Description:

The purpose of this course is to introduce graduate students to basic and advanced concepts in the field of aquatic toxicology, which is the study of the exposure to and effects of environmental pollutants in aquatic wildlife. This will be accomplished using an investigative approach in which students will gain hands-on experience in developing and conducting novel toxicological research, and communicating the results of these studies in oral and written format.

Course Description:

The purpose of this course is to provide graduate Biology students with advanced training in the critical skills necessary for becoming a professional biologist. This includes skills in grant writing and peer review, oral and public presentation of scientific research, research ethics, manuscript preparation, public outreach, and the development of materials needed for the scientific job search.

Summary of the Changes:
With the addition of new faculty to our department, we are now able to expand our course offerings for graduate students. Two new courses were created as a part of the concurrently submitted request to update the Master of Science Program of Study in Biology, Critical Skills in Science (BSC 6xxx) and Aquatic Toxicology (PBC 6xxx). This request is to amend the Program of Study for the Master of Arts in Biology, to also include these two courses. (Click here for the program of study)
