Change an existing minor
Community Leadership Minor
Summary of the Changes:
As the Leadership Certificate Program gained traction, both in terms of student popularity, BOT support, and Presidential support, a Community Leadership Minor made its way through Faculty Association review. As the COEHS, Department of Leadership, School Counseling and Sport Management and the Institute for Values, Community and Leadership strengthened its partnership, it became obvious that merging the community leadership minor and the leadership certificate benefits students by enabling them to acquire the experiential learning component from the Student Affairs while acquiring a leadership minor that is reflected on their academic transcript. It maintains the interdisciplinary approach so vital to the five colleges. Further it reflects the high engagement pedagogy and the practical application of the community based transformational learning activities. We are proposing the minor be changed from 15 hours to 12 hours with the following changes:
1. Add LDR 3240 Inter-Group Dialogue and SOP Foundations of Conflict Transformation to the existing LDR 3320 Collaborative Leadership requirement so that students can choose between the three choices.
2. Moving LDR 4340 Resource Development for Community Organizations to the interdisciplinary elective area.
3. Replacing the current list of electives with a broader list of interdisciplinary choices for students.
