Nutrition and Dietetics - Undergraduate

Change a degree-major of an existing program

Bachelor of Science - Nutrition & Dietetics Major

Summary of the Changes:

The Nutrition and Dietetics faculty would like to ensure student success and timely completion in the undergraduate major by making changes to the existing Program of Study. Historically, students who struggled the most to get through our rigorous science-based curriculum performed poorer in the science prerequisites. Currently, students must earn a "C" grade or better in all program courses. We are requesting that students must earn a "B" grade or better in three prerequisite courses: BSC2085C Human Anatomy and Physiology I, BSC2086C Human Anatomy and Physiology II, and HUN2201 Basic Principles of Human Nutrition. In addition, we are adding a policy that clarifies grade requirements and the ramifications if the required grade isn't earned. Also, to ensure that students have a strong foundation in human metabolism prior to enrolling in DIE3213 Nutrition Therapy I, we would like to add two prerequisite courses, HUN3230 Advanced Nutrition Science I and HUN3231 Advanced Nutrition Science II.
Other changes include the removal of a requirement for students to meet with the Program Director the semester before graduation to discuss internships because this is now embedded in a senior capstone class offered each Fall semester, deleting two statements regarding when FSS1202/L are offered, and correcting the link to the online Nutrition Program Handbook. The final change is the deletion of a prerequisite, ACG2021 Principles of Financial Accounting, from the UNF catalog for DIE4122 Management of Food and Nutrition Services I. This prerequisite course was previously approved for removal from our Program of Study January 18, 2011, when our program degree change was approved by the Board of Trustees. However, this course wasn't removed as a prerequisite to DIE4122 and we would now like to correct the mistake.

Change an existing course Nutrition Therapy I DIE Junior (3xxx) 213

We would like to add two additional prerequisite courses, HUN3230 Advanced Nutrition Science I and HUN3231 Advanced Nutrition Science II, to ensure that students have a strong foundation in human metabolism prior to enrolling in DIE3213.

Change an existing course Management of Food/ Nutrition I DIE Senior (4xxx) 122

We would like to remove ACG2021 Principles of Financial Accounting as a prerequisite course for DIE4122 Management of Food and Nutrition Services I. Our accreditation standards no longer require extensive knowledge of financial accounting. ACG2021 was previously approved for removal from our Program of Study on January 18, 2011, by the Board of Trustees. However, ACG2021 wasn't specifically removed as a prerequisite for DIE4122 and therefore still appears in the UNF catalog as such. We would now like to correct the mistake.
