Change a degree-major-concentration of an existing program
Master of Science in Health - Health Science Major Geriatric Management Concentration
Summary of the Changes:
This request is to change the name of the Master of Health Science concentration from Geriatric Management to Aging Services Management, to replace the list of courses approved as electives with a broader list of general subject areas, to change the course description of one course and designation of two aging courses from HSC (Health Science) to GEY (Gerontology). The request for the name change for the concentration is driven by the need to better clarify the focus of the concentration for potential applicants. This suggestion is strongly supported by our community partners. The replacement of the specific course list for electives is made to encourage students to explore aging courses across a variety of disciplines. Elective courses may be selected from GEY, HSA, HSC, PHC, MAN and PAD courses. Course from other areas may be taken with Program Director approval. The Course Description for HSC6737 Applied Research in Aging is changed to better reflect required course content. The designation of the Aging courses (HSC6737 Applied Research in Aging and HSC 6560 Aging and Health in a Multicultural Society) as GEY is requested to position those courses in the catalog with other aging courses. Additionally the undergraduate and graduate aging courses added in the last few years have all been assigned the GEY designation by the state as part of common course numbering efforts.(Click here to view the Program of study)
This request is to change the prefix for HSC 6737 Applied Research in Aging from HSC (Health Science) to GEY (Gerontology). Immediate benefit to the program and students would be increased course visibility. Currently the courses are scattered through three different program areas. Additionally, the request is based on the fact that undergraduate and graduate aging courses added by our programs in the last few years have all been assigned the GEY designation by the state as part of common course numbering efforts. Additionally, the course description of HSC6737 Applied Research in Aging has been edited to more clearly describe the course content and focus.
New Course Description:
Master of Health Admin. - Health Administration Major
This request is to add a new course (HSA6XXX Managerial Epidemiology) which will replace a current program course (HSC6505 Epidemiology). This change is made to address new content required by the Program's accrediting body the Commission on Accreditation of Health Management Education (CAHME). Additionally, the program will delete the current list of program electives (HSA 6126 Managed Health Care, HSA 6225 Long-term Care Administration, HSA 6958 Study Abroad: Health ,HSA 6908 Direct Independent Study, PAD 5605 Administrative Law, PAD 6612 Regulatory Administration, ACG 6305 Management Accounting) and replace them with general content areas. The change will read: Electives many be selected from 5000 or 6000 level GEY, HSA, HSC, MAN and PAD courses or other graduate level courses with Program Director approval. MAN and PAD courses will require approval form their Respective programs.
