This course covers the application of statistical analyses to engineering problems. The course emphasizes theory and methods of conducting advanced research, including the scientific method.

Course Description:
This course provides an introduction to the coastal environment with a focus on engineering and science applications. The course introduces important topics and physical processes necessary to understand and work in the coastal environment. These topics are the foundation for more advanced study of water wave mechanics, coastal processes, and coastal engineering design. 
Course topics include Coastal Zone Introduction, Basic Water Wave Theory, Wave Statistical Analysis (short/long term), Wind Waves and Storm Surges, Tides and Tidal Currents, Shorelines and Nearshore Processes, Inlet Systems, Coastal Management, and Environmental Aspects of Coastal Projects.

Summary of the Changes:

We want to add CGN 6XXX: Introduction to Coastal Engineering (3 crs) as an additional elective option to the MS in Civil Engineering - Water Resources/Environmental concentration. This new course is being submitted under the package 201008-76. This elective addition will not change the total program hours of 30 credits.
