College of Arts and Sciences - Undergraduate
Add a new minor
Summary of the Changes:
The College of Arts and Sciences proposes the creation of a new INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES MINOR. This minor would be a complement to the Interdisciplinary Studies Major (formerly the Liberal Studies Major). Under the guidance of a faculty member assigned by the director of this minor, a student would design a 15 hour minor composed of courses from throughout the university, courses that together coherently focus on a particular theme. This program would enable a student, under the direction of a faculty mentor, to construct a set of courses that focus on a particular educational goal, that complement either a traditional major or an interdisciplinary major, and that prepare the student for career opportunities "outside the boxes" of traditional academic disciplines. (Presently the College offers the following interdisciplinary minors: African Diaspora/African American Studies, Asian Studies, Classical Civilization, Environmental Studies, Film Studies, Gender Studies, International Studies, Latin American Studies, Metropolitan & Urban Studies, and Religious Studies.) At least three credits of the capstone course IDS 4910 Liberal Studies Expo is required for completion of this minor.
