Terminate an existing course Serv Lrng Interpreters INT Junior (3xxx) 952
Course was originally one of three, 2-credit hour Service-Learning courses and has never been taught since program started in 2007. Content was absorbed into the other two Service-Learning courses, which are changing to 3-credit hours; thus, the hours in the Program of Study will not change.
 
Change an existing course Serv Lrng Deaf Children INT Junior (3xxx) 950

Increase to 3-credit hours. This course was originally a set of 3, 2-hour Service Learning courses. The course requirements exceed the 2-hour designation.

New Course Description:

This course is one of two service-learning options that is designed to strengthen the student's ability to acculturate to the rich linguistic and cultural characteristics of the Deaf community through civic engagement. Students will participate in structured experiential settings that are located by their investigation of community needs. Students will design a service-learning project that is responsive to needs of Deaf children and reflect upon the learning process through journaling and faculty mentorship.

We are making changes in the course description to correct the number of field-based experience hours, reflecting our current requirement.
New Course Description:

Designed for the prospective educator, this course provides the opportunity to explore issues of diversity, including an understanding of the influence of exceptionalities, 
culture, family, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion, language of origin, ethnicity, and age upon the educational experience. Students will explore personal attitudes toward diversity and exceptionalities. Students will be provided information on the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices, Sunshine State Standards, and the Professional Educator Competencies. A minimum of 18 hours of field-based experiences working with diverse populations of children and youth in schools or similar settings is required. The experiences should not be conducted via virtual modes of film or Internet.

This is a survey course including historical, sociological and philosophical foundations of education, governance and finance of education, educational policies, legal, moral and ethical issues and the professionalism of teaching. Students will be provided information on the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices, Sunshine State Standards, and the Professional Educator Competencies. Students are required to complete a minimum of 18 hours of field-based experiences with children and youth in schools or similar settings. The experiences should not be conducted via virtual modes of film or Internet.
