Summary of the Changes:
To reflect the replacement of STA 2023 Elementary Statistics for Business as a prerequisite for ECO 3421 Econometrics

with ECO3411 Business/Economic Statistics, we request to:
1. Add ECO3411 Business/Economic Statistics to the Major Requirements. The Major Requirements will increase to
24 credits from the original 21 credits. This will be balanced by the approved reduction in Core Requirements by 3 credits
as a result of eliminating SOP3004 Social Psychology from the business core requirement.
2. Eliminate SOP3004 Social Psychology (3 credits) from the business core requirement. This will reduce the Core

Requirement from 21 to 18 credits. The total credits in the program will remain unchanged.

ECO 3421
Econometrics

Requested action to this course: Remove STA2023 Elementary Statistics for Business as a pre-requisite and replace

it with ECO3411 Business/Economic Statistics.
Justification: The proposed prerequisite of ECO3411 Business/Economic Statistics ensures that students have adequate

statistics skills needed for ECO3421 (Econometrics), so the instructor can more effectively
1) introduce more advanced econometric techniques, and
2) emphasize the application of econometrics to special problems associated with analyzing economic data.
We propose to drop the original prerequisite STA2023 Elementary Statistics for Business because it is also a prerequisite

of ECO3411 Business/Economic Statistics.

Managerial Economics

Requested action to this course: Drop ECO3421 Econometrics as a co-requisite.
Justification: Currently either ECO3411 Business/Economic Statistics or ECO3421 Econometrics meets the co-requisite

for the course. Contingent on the approval of adding ECO3411 Business/Economic Statistics as a prerequisite for

ECO3421 Econometrics (Log# 2010/11-015), it is no longer necessary to list ECO3411 Business/Economic Statistics

and ECO3421 Econometrics as substitutes in the co-requisite. ECO3411 Business/Economic Statistics will provide

sufficient statistical concepts needed as a co-requisite for ECP3703 Managerial Economics.

Justification: Currently ECO3411 Business/Economic Statistics and ECO3421 Econometrics are substitutes in the

prerequisite for the course. Contingent on the approval of adding ECO3411 Business/Economic Statistics as a

prerequisite for ECO3421 Econometrics (Log# 2010/11-015), it is no longer necessary to list ECO3421 Econometrics

as a pre-requisite if a student has taken ECO3411 Business/Economic Statistics. ECO3411 Business/Economic

Statistics provides sufficient statistical concepts needed as a prerequisite for ECO4401 Mathematical Economics.

Albert,
I got it. I agree that this represents an insignificant change since STA 2023 will still be a prereq. for ECO 3411.

Subject: APC and potential impact on offering

Dear Dr. Hochwald,
As suggested by Faculty Association APC committee, I am writing to let you know about a curriculum change proposed by the department of Economics and Geography and its potential impact on the offering in STA2023 Elementary Statistics for Business.

We propose to replace STA2023 Elementary Statistics for Business with ECO3411 Business/Economic Statistics as a prerequisite for ECO3421 Econometrics. Currently both ECO3411 and ECO3421 have STA2023 as a pre-requisite. This change should not affect the demand for STA2023 by much if at all, since students who plan to take ECO3421 will still have to take STA2023 before they take the prerequisite ECO3411.

Please let me know when you received this notification. Thank you very much.

Albert
