Summary of Changes:

The Certificate in TESOL will allow non-degree seeking students to build their knowledge, skills, and dispositions in the area of TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at the graduate level. The certificate will require 18 graduate credit hours. Students who complete the Certificate in TESOL, and hold this credential, will be eligible to compete in the world market of TESOL. Students who already have a master's degree could also teach TESOL courses at the undergraduate level at any institute of higher education. The 18 credit hours would also satisfy the TSL requirements for the master of education in elementary education P-12 TESOL concentration.

Course Description:
This course provides a brief overview of language systems and stresses the application of linguistic knowledge to TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). English is compared and contrasted with other languages in the areas of phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. Instruction of English Language Learners is emphasized.
