BAE - Elementary Education Major

Summary of the Changes:
Following recommendations and trends in the field of childhood education, the Elementary Education Program will be revised to include (a) a new course that combines instruction in visual arts and music and (b) an existing course about the nature and needs of exceptional learners, who are increasingly included in regular classes of elementary school. These changes in the Elementary Education Program will be done without an increase in extant required course hours for completion of the B.A.E. The combination of arts instruction in one course will provide a model of integrated arts instruction which other universities and K-6 schools provide. Consequently, the new course will be relevant to the professional practice of elementary teachers.
With this revision of the Elementary Education Program, the following existing courses will be deleted from this program:
Extant Courses to Remove:
MUE 4210 MUSIC METHODS FOR ELEMENTARY TEACHERS 3 credit hours
This course will be terminated by May of 2010 (201005) to allow students who are in the current program of study to finish it.
ARE 4313 ART METHODS FOR ELEMENTARY TEACHERS 3 credit hours
This course will be terminated by May of 2010 (201005) to allow students who are in the current program of study to finish it.
