Amendment to the UNF Constitution

We recommend that Article 3 - Section 4, Paragraph 3 of the UNF Constitution read

"Member of the Faculty Association shall include (a) all faculty, with the exception of adjunct faculty, who have a teaching and research or service, or academic assignment during the academic year and who hold the ranks of professor, associate professor, assistant professor, instructor, lecturer; (b) all assistant, associate, and full librarians; (c) all academic administrators who have teaching and research or teaching and service assignments. With the consent of the Association, the President of the University may appoint any other member of the University community to non-voting, ex officio membership in the Faculty Association."

Rationale:

In the UNF Constitution, (See: http://www.unf.edu/president/UNF_Constitution.aspx) it states "Member of the Faculty Association shall include (a) all faculty, with the exception of adjunct and visiting faculty, who have a teaching and research or service, or academic assignment during the academic year and who hold the ranks of professor, associate professor, assistant professor, instructor, lecturer; (b) all assistant, associate, and full librarians; (c) all academic administrators who have teaching and research or teaching and service assignments. With the consent of the Association, the President of the University may appoint any other member of the University community to non-voting, ex officio membership in the Faculty Association."

Whereas Article III Section 1 of the Faculty Association Bylaws states:

"The membership of the Association shall consist of all persons holding full-time faculty appointments and participating in the instruction, research, or service programs of the University, including visiting faculty and Library faculty, as well as faculty on phased retirement."

We wish to make the Constitution consistent with the Bylaws and recognize that it has been the practice of the Faculty Association to include visiting faculty.
