Undergraduate - Art and Design
The request is to update ART 2203C Three Dimensional Design course description to be more open-ended in terms of materials. It is important to note that design and construction are the emphasis of the class, as this class is a foundations course which is required by the BFA in Art Studio, the BA in Art Studio and the BA in Art Education.
The request is to update the course description to be more open-ended in terms of materials. The purpose of this course is to use sculptural media to manipulate form in three-dimensions with an emphasis on core construction techniques and development of individual expression.A prerequisite of ART2203C, Three Dimensional Design (3 credits), should be added so that students in this course begin with a certain skill-set.The request is to change from a repeatable course (up to 3 times for a maximum of 9 credits) to a non-repeatable course (fixed credits at 3). The course should not be able to be repeated since we have upper level sculpture classes for students to continue into. The title of the course, Sculpture Process, should change to Sculpture I, to allow for a progressive, sequential track and to allow for future courses to be added.
The request is to update the course description to be more open-ended in terms of materials. Additionally the description should reflect the upper level development of a sculptor, in terms of personal style and professional awareness. The title of the course, Sculpture Advanced, should change to Sculpture III, to allow for a progressive, sequential track and to allow for future courses to be added. The addition of a prerequisite, ART 3709C Sculpture Intermediate (proposed new title: Sculpture II), allows progression from ART 3707C Sculpture Process (Proposed New Title: Sculpture I) to ART 3709C Sculpture Intermediate (Proposed New Title: Sculpture II) to ART 4710C Sculpture Advanced (Proposed New Title: Sculpture III).
The request is to update the course description to reflect more specifically the types of sculpture that will be addressed in the course. We would also like to require that some trips will be taken to produce artwork "on location" within the local Jacksonville area. The course should be able to be taken up to 3 times and for a maximum of 9 credits for additional research in site-specific sculpture.
Summary of the Changes: The Bachelor of Arts, Sculpture/Ceramics track is updating its program of study in the following ways: Under the BA CS Major Requirements, the 15 credits should change to 21 credits by adding the following courses: ART 3786C Ceramics (3) and ART 3707C Sculpture Process (3). Under BA Ceramics/Sculpture Major Electives, the 15 credits should change to 9 credits. Total credits remain the same.
We would like to clean up the two combined tracks by changing the program of study under BA CS Major Electives. Change so that Ceramics majors take: ART 3765C Ceramics: Intermediate (3), ART 4768C Advanced Ceramics (3) and an ART elective course at the 3000 or 4000 level (3). Change so that Sculpture majors take: ART 3709C Sculpture Intermediate (3), ART 4710C Advanced Sculpture (3) and an ART elective course at the 3000 or 4000 level (3).
Add prerequisites to existing courses: ART 3707C Sculpture Process - New Prereq: ART 2203C Three Dimensional Design and ART 4710C Advanced Sculpture - New Prereq: ART 3709C Sculpture Intermediate for registration purposes. We would like to update the prerequisites so that the program of study is a progressive and sequential track. Currently students are able to repeat the lower level courses but not the upper level course. Since the upper level courses are more self-directed in terms of specific materials and processes, it makes sense for students to be able to repeat only the upper level courses.
ART 3707C Sculpture Process, currently repeatable should be changed to non-repeatable. ART 4710C Advanced Sculpture should be changed from non-repeatable to be able to be taken up to 4 times for a maximum of 12 credits.
Update the sculpture course titles to reflect the idea of a progressive, sequential track. ART 3707C Sculpture Process would become ART 3707C Sculpture I. ART 3709C Sculpture Intermediate would become ART 3709C Sculpture II. ART 4710C Advanced Sculpture would become ART 4710C Sculpture III.
Update the course descriptions for ART 2203C Three Dimensional Design, ART 3707C Sculpture Process, ART 3709C Sculpture Intermediate, ART 4710C Advanced Sculpture so that they don't rely too heavily on specific materials. We want the student to use materials and processes that best suit their ideas and creative process. Instead of focusing on materials in the upper level course descriptions, we want to focus on the development of the artist and artistic process. Specific skills and materials will be dependent on idea. Four APC2 forms are being submitted to change the title structure, the prerequisites, and the course descriptions for sequencing purposes.
