Information Item #2 - Submitted by the Faculty Association President (2012-2013/May)
Faculty Association Special Election of Search Committee for
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
The Faculty Association is accepting the names of faculty nominees interested in seeking election to the Search Committee for Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. A total of 9 positions will be available for election from the faculty as a whole for representation on this committee.
Nominations will be accepted through Friday, May 10th, at 3 p.m and from the floor at the May 9thFaculty Association meeting. The election will be conducted electronically and will begin on Wednesday, May 15th, 2013 @9:00 AM and continue till 5:00 PM on Friday, May 24th.
To nominate yourself or a willing colleague, please forward your nomination to Faculty Association President, Dr. Gordon Rakita, (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The following voting system will be used:
- All nominees will be listed by their college/library affiliation.
- Voters will be able to vote for as many nominees as they approve of (irrespective of the college/library of the voter and nominees) in an approval voting system (see:http://www.electology.org/approval-voting). This method of voting allows faculty to vote for every candidate they support. Note however, if a faculty member votes for all the candidates, then their vote will not affect the outcome.
- Candidate from each college/library with the most votes will be selected for that college's "designated" slot.
- The 3 nominees (excluding those elected for the 6 college/library "designated" slots) with the most votes will be selected for the 3 "at-large" slots, with the provision that no more than two "at-large" members come from the same college.
This system guarantees that each college and the library have at least one representative. It also makes sure that the "at large" representatives are drawn from at least two of the colleges/library.
