Bowen Scholarship
The fund will provide scholarships to political science students at the University. Bowen was an outstanding educator, a dedicated faculty leader and an instrumental member of the UNF Board of Trustees who was killed in an auto accident on August 5, 2003. Bowen earned a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Tennessee and taught there before coming to UNF about 10 years ago. He was nominated for the Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher Award in 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998 and was a recipient of the Teaching Incentive Program in 1996. As the president of the UNF Faculty Association, he was the faculty’s representative to the Board of Trustees. He was also the UNF Faculty Athletic Representative and the director of UNF’s Institute of Government since 1995. A memorial scholarship has been established by the University of North Florida Board of Trustees in the name of Dr. Terry Bowen, as associate professor of Political Science and Public Administration at UNF.
