WALKING THE TALK

Closing Functions of Peace Awareness Week: Sat. October 6, 2007
The Following Events are designed to facilitate a transition from the Symposiuim Dialogue to Action in the Community. These events are open to all citizens  of Jacksonville. We are grateful for the collaborative support of the following organizations in this evening's closing events: Gandhi Memorial Society, Wage Peace, Jacksonville, Inc., Peace Alliance Campaign to Establish a US. Department of Peace, and 100 Youth Inspirational Voices of the Stage Aurora Theatrical Company;

Community Walk for Peace and Healing                                  Friendship Fountain

Participants gather at Friendship Fountain, on the Southbank of the St. Johns River in Downtown Jacksonville, for a short program followed by a Gandhian Walk for Peace and Healing, moving across the Main Street Bridge and ending at the the Jacksonville Main Library on Laura Street.

Note: The walk is just less than 1 mile; Walkers are encouraged to park in the vicinity of the Downtown Library (terminus of the Walk) and then catch the Skyway monorail from the Hemming Plaza station, and exiting at the San Marco Station (first station after crossing the River). Friendship Fountain is twos blocks from that station. MAP OF JACKSONVILLE SKYWAY A shuttle van will be available for those who wish to participate but are unable to do the walk.

Peacemakers Reception:  Jacksonville Library Conference Center (Lobby Area)

Participants in the Walk are invited to partake in a complimentary light meal while they network and build community;

Jacksonville, on the Topic of Peace                     Jacksonville Library Auditorium
This evening's concluding program will feature a presentation by 100 Youth Inspirational Voices followed by a multi-media presentation presented by The North Central Florida Department of Peace Campaign. The production is an adaptation of the recent presentation at the Hippodrome in Gainesville, Florida, and includes scripted scenes, personal and historical monologes, music, and film interviews of people on the topic of peace. The program will conclude with a community discussion addressing the problem of violence (both domestic and internationally) and how it has affected our lives, our hearts, and our world. The program will end with a consideration of how Jacksonville citizens might organize to promote support for the Department of Peace legislation in the US Congress (HR808). <Donations Will be Accepted>Click Here For Program Flyer for This Event
