National GANDHI Memorial Essay Competition
Essay 

The Gandhi Memorial Society invites High School and College students across the United States to submit entries for the first National Gandhi Memorial Essay Competition. This occasion marks the first commemoration of International Non-violence Day (October 2) as proclaimed by the United Nations. Winning essays will be presented on October 2nd, 2007, Gandhi's birthday, on the campus of the University of North Florida (UNF) in Jacksonville, Florida. The event also marks the first anniversary of the dedication of the Mahatma Gandhi Statue on the campus of UNF.

Guidelines:
The competition is open to all College and High School students.  There will be First, Second, and Third place awards for entries each from College and High School students. Essays should address the teachings and message of Mahatma Gandhi with relevance to contemporary society.  Essay length for college students should be  500- 600 words, while the length for high school students should be 300-400 words. The submission deadline is September 15, 2007. Email Submissions to: Rameshvar12@hotmail.com (Mr. Ramesh Vashi, Chairperson, Gandhi Memorial Society).

All entries should include the name and address of the student author, the name and address of the school the student is attending, as well as the name of the lead administrator from the College or the School ( e.g. President, Principal), and an e-mail contact address for the student author and his/her lead administrator.

Gandhi Memorial Society

The awards will be nnounced at the Gandhi Memorial on UNF’s campus on October 2, 2007 at 6:00 PM as part of Peace Awareness Week at the University. The award winning essays will be read by the student authors as part of the evening program prior to the lecture by Dr. Ravindra Kumar.gandhi stat
