Policy
on Term Forgiveness Approved (as amended) as item FA94-10 by the
University of North Florida Faculty Association June 2, 1994.
An undergraduate student may request term forgiveness,
which involves a student's petition to suppress from their grade
point average one academic term of work because of personal or
financial problems. The following guidelines apply to a petition
for Term Forgiveness:
- Petitions will be made through the normal
channels to appeal an academic decision. Petitions are available
in the Registrar's Office.
- If approved, the transcript will note
"Term Forgiveness" for the appropriate term. The original
grades will remain on the transcript. For the purpose of
graduation, the grades for all courses taken that term will
be treated as though the student had received a "W" in every
course. The original recorded grades will be used in any "honors"
calculations. None of the courses will count toward graduation.
- Petitions will never be approved for the
present term or the immediately preceding term.
- Petitions must be approved prior to graduation.
- Only current students seeking their first
baccalaureate degree are eligible for term forgiveness.
- No more than one petition for Term Forgiveness
may be granted for any student at UNF.
- The petition can only be approved by the
College that the student was enrolled in during the semester
for which forgiveness is requested.
- Either two grade forgivenesses or one
term forgiveness are available to any student during their undergraduate
career. Either one term forgiveness or two grade forgivenesses
are available to any student during their undergraduate career.
Please use caution in choosing
to request a Term Forgiveness. Once a Term Forgiveness has been
processed, it will not be reassigned.
