Online Wait List FAQ

During registration, several colleges offer an Online Waitlist System. When you register online and find a desired course, you will have the option of signing up on a waiting list for that course. This feature even tells you how many people have already signed up on the waiting list. If the course becomes open, and you are the next name on the waiting list, you will automatically be registered for the course.

For more information, read the frequently asked questions and their answers below:

What is the Online Wait List?
The Online WaitList system will allow students to place themselves on a WaitList for a closed section while they are registering online. They may do this through the third day of drop/add.
Is there a fee associated with Online Wait List classes?
If you have been placed on a wait list during regular registration and are moved into the course during add/drop week, there are no extra fees assessed.
How do I access Online WaitLists?
While registering on the web, you will have automatic access to the Online WaitList system, if the course and section for which you are registering is closed and a WaitList is available.

Simply go to the Action drop down menu and choose Waitlist to be added to the list. Click Submit changes.

Most departments offer wait list courses.
How will I know if a class/section will have an online waitlist?
The registration system will display the message, "CLOSED - Waitlisted -00#" if a section is closed and offers a waitlist. The number displayed indicates the number of students already on the list for this course.
Am I eligible to put myself on any WaitList?
No. The registration system will check your eligibility to get on a WaitList just as it checks your eligibility to get into an open course. You must have met the pre-requisite requirements and any other rules placed on the course by a department before you can get on a WaitList for a particular course.
Can I call the department to add me to an Online WaitList?
No. Online WaitLists are only accessible when you attempt to register for a closed class and a waitlist is available.
What is the last day to get on a WaitList?
The third day of drop/add.
How can I confirm I am on a WaitList?
In Banner Self Service, under Registration, select Add/Drop/Withdrawal. All classes that you have registered or waitlisted for are displayed here.
How do I know my position on the Waitlist?
When you are placed on a WaitList, the system will tell you what number on the list you are. Once processing begins, you will not be updated on movement in the list.
How will I know if I have been moved off the WaitList and added to the course?
It is your responsibility to monitor your schedule. Check your registration in Banner Self Service; choose Registration, Add/Drop/Withdraw from classes--the action will have changed from Waitlist to Registered if you were added to the class.
How can I be removed from a WaitList?
There are three ways to be removed from the WaitList: 1. You may drop yourself off a WaitList using Banner Self Service. An action is required on your part. 2. You are added to the course through normal WaitList processing. No action is required on your part. 3. You are purged from all lists at the end of drop/add. No action is required on your part.
Can I register for another course if there is a time conflict with a waitlisted course?
No. Being on the WaitList holds that time block for your schedule so you can be added to the course if a space becomes available.
Can I register for another section of the waitlisted course?
You may place yourself on the waitlist for multiple sections of the same course. When one of the sections become available, and you are registered for it, the others are dropped from the waitlist.
How often is the WaitList processed?
Online WaitLists will be processed nightly during registration and drop/add. This process will move people automatically from the WaitLists into open spaces in courses.
When will Online WaitList processing stop?
All Online WaitList processing will stop on the last day of drop/add. You can be placed into courses through 5:00 on the last day of drop/add. However, if you have not been moved into a class by the 4th day of drop/add, you should seriously consider registering for a different one.
How long will I stay on a WaitList?
If you are still on a WaitList at the end of drop/add and you are not enrolled in the course you will be purged from the waitlist. Once purged, the WaitListed course will no longer appear on your fee slip.
How long will I stay on an Advanced Term (Fall) WaitList?
WaitLists for Fall courses will be retained until the end of drop/add for regular Fall registration.
Does the WaitList guarantee I will get into this course?
No. If you must be registered for a certain number of hours, you should consider other courses or sections of this course.
Can I list my preference for courses/sections?
No. You will be placed in the first available section. Other waitlisted sections of the same class will then be removed.
Will I be notified if I am added to a class from an Online WaitList?
An email notification will be sent once you have been moved into a course.
If I am on a WaitList for a prerequisite course for the Summer term, will I be able to use Advanced Fall registration to enroll in the follow-up course?
No. Being on a WaitList for a summer course does not guarantee you will be able to get into the class, so, the registration system will not allow you to advance register for a Fall course requiring the pre-requisite.
Should I attend a waitlisted class if I am still on the WaitList during drop/add?
Generally it is a good idea, but you should contact the instructor for the course to see if he or she thinks you should attend the course.
Will another section open when a large number of people get on the WaitList?
Not necessarily. Opening additional sections of classes is dependent on the availability of resources, such as faculty, space, and funds, as well as the demand for the class. If a department has the available resources, an additional section may be added. Check the course schedule on the web for the most up-to-date listing of courses. WaitList information will be collected and utilized for future planning.
