What is FERPA?
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy act (FERPA) is a federal law which affords students certain rights with respect to their educational records. The intent of this Act is to protect the privacy of students and their records. Visit the FERPA web site for more information.
FERPA provides students the right to:
- Inspect and review their educational records
- Request an amendment to their records if they believe there is an inaccuracy
- Restrict any or all information from public access
- File a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education if they feel the University has failed to follow FERPA guidelines
