chose the University of North Florida because it has the best nursing school in
Florida, (I am eventually going to apply for nursing school) and UNF has a
beautiful campus and a lot to offer students. There are opportunities for
everyone to get involved on campus, volunteer in the community, become a leader
and progress in academics.
are relatively small, it is easy to meet people and form awesome study groups
and the professors are very knowledgeable and helpful. The faculty wants you to
succeed and learn as much as you can. They have helped me figure out what I
want to do in the future, the right people to talk to and the right places to
of class, I am heavily involved in my Sorority, Delta Gamma. I also volunteer at the Mayo Clinic once a
week. In my free time, I like to go to the beach, listen to music, and watch
movies to help me relax. I try to keep as stress-free as possible — I exercise,
participate in fitness classes, such as yoga and volunteer in the community.
I am doing in or out of class, my health is important to me. On campus, we call
it being a Healthy Osprey. Being a Healthy Osprey means making healthy choices
every day, whether that is eating right, exercising instead of watching TV,
avoiding arguments or speaking up when you do not agree with something, being a
good friend or using relaxation techniques to help you relieve stress from
day-to-day hassles. Not only is it important for me to make sure I am eating
nutritious foods or exercising, it is also important for me to live a
stress-free life, or at least know how to cope with stress when it arises. I
know being a Healthy Osprey will help me to live a longer and happier life.
supports my healthy lifestyle by giving me well-trained personal trainers, a
gym facility with all the equipment I need and staff to help me reach my goals.
UNF also provides healthy food options and the Department of Health Promotion
(DHP) provides nutrition counselors to help me reach my diet goals and keep me
on track with healthy eating. The University also provides healthy food options
and the new Student Wellness Complex will be open this summer giving students,
faculty and staff a state-of-the-art fitness facility to work out in. DHP also
offers nutrition, as well as, fitness assessments to help student assess where
they stand and then provides the resources to help students reach their goals.
DHP is here to help any student who has goals they want to reach and provides
programs, like Ospreys on the Move, to give students an opportunity to get
involved and get fit. And next year, when the Healthy Osprey Living Learning
Community opens in the Landing Residence Hall, it will be even easier for students
who choose to live a healthy lifestyle. They will be surrounded by others who
share their goals and outlook. It will be a great place to live!
think anyone who wants to start on the Healthy Osprey path should havean open mind and the willingness to try
new things. It is hard to get out of your comfort zone, but once you do you
will be glad you did! Remember mistakes are good; they’ll help you learn and
grow. I also encourage you to get involved on campus as much as possible. It’ll
help you grow, meet new friends and network. Try to live the most healthy
lifestyle you can — it will benefit you greatly!
