The University of North Florida’s Taylor Leadership Institute presents the ninth annual Student Leadership Summit from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, in the Student Union Ballrooms, Building 58W, Room 3703 A-D, on the UNF campus.

This year’s theme, “Leading Beyond Boundaries,” will explore the concept of cultural intelligence (CQ) and highlight the ways in which CQ can enhance students’ capacity to lead more effectively in an ever globalizing world.

Keynote speaker Dr. Sandra Upton, vice president of educational initiatives with the Cultural Intelligence Center, is responsible for leading the Center’s educational efforts. She will share her unique insight into this key leadership competency, while challenging students to develop a deeper understanding of their own CQ and its significance in the real world of the workplace, classroom, community and beyond.

Upton has provided training and consulting to a number of prominent institutions and organizations, including Harvard Business School, London School of Economics, Google, Starbucks and others who have sought to improve the CQ of their students and team members. As a former business school dean, she understands how to effectively integrate CQ training with global leadership programs/initiatives and has facilitated study-abroad experiences in countries such as China, Europe, Israel and South Africa.

There are several notable leaders from the University and the Jacksonville community who will help to facilitate collaborative activities throughout the day, including Dr. Mark Dawkins, UNF Coggin College of Business dean; Sheila Spivey, UNF Women’s Center director; Jill Dame, Leadership Jacksonville CEO and Dave Reed, former Hollywood recording engineer, to name a few.
