The University of North Florida has hired alumna Amanda Dawson as the new public relations specialist in the Department of Public Relations under the Office of the President, beginning today, Monday, Dec. 19.
Dawson, an Intracoastal West resident, has been working in the Department of Public Relations at UNF as a part-time event specialist since graduating from the University in 2015 with a degree in communications and a concentration in public relations as well as a minor in philosophy.
She will be responsible for the daily e-communication distributed to the University’s more than 4,000 employees and weekly e-communication to more than 16,000 students. Dawson will also handle the University’s multiple social media platforms and will work closely with media at all levels, from local and regional to state and national media.
Additionally, she has spent several years in a public relations/marketing position and co-owner of TJ’s Rocks, a local gem and mineral wholesale company, where she handled public relations and event coordination as well as creating product marketing content and advertisements.
Prior to working at UNF, Dawson spent time as an intern in the Department of Public Relations, where she assisted in planning, organizing, preparing and hosting the Distinguished Voices Lecture Series at the University, assisted with press releases as well as media relations and collected social media analytics.
As a UNF student, she was the director of public relations for the #IgniteMedia student-run news bureau for Jacksonville’s successful One Spark event, where she created a public relations division of the news bureau, crafted press releases for national and local media, produced articles, videos, photographs and social media content across multiple platforms as well as published online articles and content for the bureau website and the Jacksonville Business Journal.
UNF, a nationally ranked university located on an environmentally beautiful campus, offers students who are dedicated to enriching the lives of others the opportunity to build their own futures through a well-rounded education.
