The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center at the University of North Florida and the LGBT Community Fund for Northeast Florida present “The “T” in Equality: Lessons from the Front” at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, in the Adam W. Herbert University Center, Building 43, Room 1058, on UNF’s campus. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

Kasey Suffredini, chief program officer and director of the Transgender Freedom Project at Freedom for All Americans, will provide insight about current initiatives and the movement to secure equal protections for all people. He’ll also cover the powerful impact of community education efforts that happen alongside nondiscrimination policy campaigns.

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and connect with local efforts to make Jacksonville more inclusive. Representatives from the Jacksonville Coalition for Equality will also be in attendance.

“Jacksonville organizations are working together to ensure our transgender family, friends, and coworkers are equally protected under the law because in our state, it’s legal to fire someone or deny basic services because they’re transgender,” said Kaitlin Legg, director of the LGBT Resource Center at UNF. “Suffredini’s experience as a transgender leader of bipartisan campaigns for equality provides important insights into successful movements for freedom and justice.”

Suffredini is a transgender attorney with nearly two decades of experience managing nonprofit organizations, developing policy and leading advocacy campaigns to win administrative, legislative and electoral victories on LGBT issues. In his current position at Freedom for All Americans, he serves as the co-chair of Freedom Massachusetts, the coalition that won statewide protections in public accommodations for transgender people in Massachusetts.

This free event is open to the community. There is no charge for parking at the University Center. For more information about the event, contact the LGBT Resource Center at UNF at (904) 620-4720 or visit unf.edu/lgbtrc
