Evan G. McInnis, a University of North Florida student, was elected to national leadership in the Kappa Alpha Order at the Number I’s Leadership Institute in Sophia, N.C.

McInnis, a senior communication major, was elected as the National Undergraduate Chairman at the educational conference, which was attended by 129 chapter presidents. He will serve on the Executive Council of the Order and will represent nearly 7,500 undergraduate men.

“You become a part of something larger than yourself,” McInnis said. “Greek life isn’t about parties or exclusivity; it’s about providing members with opportunities to give back, network, become involved and grow as leaders. That’s exactly what Kappa Alpha Order and UNF Greek Life has done for me.”

He was initiated into Kappa Alpha Order in 2013 as a first-generation member by the UNF chapter of Zeta Nu and is a member of the Order of Omega national Greek honor society. He represents his chapter on the Interfraternity Council and is a founding member of the DOULOS Greek ministry, a Christian-faith ministry for Greek Life students.

McInnis, a resident of Interlachen, Fla., has held multiple leadership positions in his chapter, including corresponding secretary and president. He attended the Emerging Leaders Academy and participated in Stewards of the Order. Off campus, he volunteers as a student leadership counselor with Rotary District 6970 and the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s summer camp. He also serves in a local afterschool program.

Kappa Alpha Order and its first chapter were founded upon the chivalric principles of gentlemanly conduct, with excellence as its aim, at what is now Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. Those values remain the focus of the Order today. Kappa Alpha Order has grown to 129 chapters in 27 states. Currently, there are nearly 7,500 undergraduate members, more than 130,000 living initiated members, and well over 160,000 initiates in its history. UNF, a nationally ranked university located on an environmentally beautiful campus, offers students who are dedicated to enriching the lives of others the opportunity to build their own futures through a well-rounded education.
