UNF Nursing Students SWOOP for the Troops in Inaugural 5K

University of North Florida nursing students will “swoop for the troops,” 8 a.m. Sunday, April 12, on the University’s campus. Proceeds from the inaugural Swoop for the Troops 5k race will benefit military veterans via the UNF Military Veterans Resource Center.

 

“We wanted to give something back to those who serve our country,” said Chelsea Hill, UNF Student Nurses Association fundraising chairperson.

 

The event is part of the Association’s community outreach plan and the organization is collaborating with the Department of Sport Management to manage the logistics of the race.

 

Package pickup and the race starting line will be located at UNF Arena, Building 34. The course will take runners around the heart of campus via UNF Dr. and Eco Rd., so participants can enjoy the natural of the Sawmill Slough Preserve.

 

There are registration discounts for UNF students, military members and dependents, and runners age 60 and older. Proper identification will be required on race day, as well as a code at registration. Registration will remain open until race day, with fees starting at $27 for pre-registration, up to $42. Registration and certified chip race timing will be provided by PRS Running Solutions. Sponsors include Smoothie King, PRS and Advocare. All runners will receive a shirt and post-race snacks. Recognition awards for top three male and female finishers, top masters finisher, and top age groups will be presented.
