The University of North Florida Department of English, in conjunction with the City of Atlantic Beach and the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, will present its fifth season of Shakespeare in the Park. This year’s production is “Romeo and Juliet,” the most famous love story ever told, that follows the fortunes of young people who find true love in a culture of violence and hate. All performances are free and open to the public.
This production is directed by Dr. Pam Monteleone, UNF associate professor of English and drama, with music arranged by Trevor Lundquist and Dorothy Lalas, both UNF music majors, and swordplay by Raul Toro, fencing master from the Jacksonville Fencing Club. The cast features UNF students and members of the Jacksonville community.
The production will open with two performances on UNF’s Green, an outdoor performance space located in front of Building 45, Fine Arts Center, weather permitting at 8 p.m. Tuesday April 1, and Wednesday, April 2. Live music will begin at 7:45 p.m. Parking is available at the Fine Arts Center Parking Garage, Garage 44. Performances at the Church of the Good Shepherd will take place in Worsham Hall at 7:30 p.m. in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, located at 1100 Stockton Street in Riverside, Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5. Live music will begin at 7:15 p.m. A panel discussion will follow the April 5 performance. The performance is a presentation of the Chamber Music Society of Good Shepherd. Atlantic Beach performances will take place in Johansen Park at 8 p.m., Friday, April 11, and Saturday, April 12. Live music will begin at 7:45 p.m. Patrons may bring chairs and a picnic dinner.
