Come out for an evening of contemporary Christian music, featuring Jacksonville recording artist Joanna Norris and the Seven-14 band. You will hear original music from her solo CD “Walkin’ on Water,” as well as original songs from members of Seven-14.
Norris, a Southside resident, has been singing since the age of 7 and has been serving on her church praise team and choir for the last eight years. As a former lead singer of the Jacksonville Christian rock band Seven-14, she has sung in venues across Northeast Florida and has as also sung in Haiti and Dominica in the West Indies while serving on mission trips.
Norris, who is the associate director of Public Relations at UNF, has had eight years of vocal performance training and has performed the national anthem for the Jacksonville Suns. In 2000, she landed one of the leading roles in “The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940” at Theater Jacksonville.
“I am truly honored to be using my God-given talents to help raise funds that will assist in bringing help and hope to a country that is in desperate need,” said Norris. “We are blessed with so much here in America and it’s our duty to help those who are less fortunate.”
Members of the Seven-14 band include Ted Corby on electric guitar, Jeff Davis, who plays bass, Matt Palowski on drums and Todd Martin on harmonica, keyboard and back-up vocals.
Corby, a Southside resident, does fancy fret work on the electric guitar and has been a member of several local bands, including Seven-14, Bluephoria, Manna, Two-Fisted and the TCBand. One of Two-Fisted’s original songs, “Steve’s Hindu Boogie,” was co-written by Corby and became a No. 1 song on mp3.com’s Christian Metal Charts in 2000.
More than eight years ago, he founded Seven-14, which has opened for national recording artists Blissed and Gretchen. The band also performed at halftime for the Jacksonville Dixie Blues football team and contributed a song, “My Tendencies” to the Murray Hill Theatre: Rock the Masses Volume 2. CD.
Davis, a Jacksonville native, has been playing the guitar since he was 10 and has played with several local bands, including Seven-14, Temple Road and the San Jose Baptist Praise Band to name a few. The Southside resident has also been a guest bass player for the TCBand and the No Name Band. He is also a singer/songwriter and is currently working on a solo CD titled “Leftovers.”
Palowski, a Mandarin resident, started playing the drums with church praise teams at the age of 10. He has played with local bands Controlled Burn, TCBand, YouthQuake Live Band’s Demolition Tour, Crown Point Youth Band and the San Jose Baptist Youth Band. He is a freshman at UNF majoring in computer science with a minor in music.
Westside resident Martin is a former member of the Dylan Brown Band, a classic rock and crossover country band that gained attention in Northeast Florida after they took first place and $15,000 in the southeastern finals of the Marlboro Country Music Talent Roundup. The band became a favorite opening act of local booking agents and promoters, warming up audiences for many national touring acts who visited Jacksonville. Martin’s ability to entertain large audiences continued to give him opportunities to be the opener for big concerts in the area, including George Straight, Merle Haggard, Charlie Daniels and Molly Hatchet.
