Logistics Team Wins Logistics and Supply Chain Management Case Competition

Four University of North Florida students representing the UNF Logistics Team recently won the 2^nd Annual Logistics and Supply Chain Management UndergraduateCase Competition, the same competition the team won last year.

The competition was held April 16 at the UNF University Center, where the UNF Logistics Team competed against top-ranked logistics programs in the nation. The UNF student team consisted of Southside residents Joseph Finnigan, a senior, and Kyle Groothius, a junior; senior Claudia Gorham of St. Augustine; and senior Brock Renner of Jacksonville Beach.

The University hosted students and faculty from the University of Arkansas, University of Maryland, University of North Texas and the University of Tennessee. The UNF Logistics Team was named the first-place team, while the University of Maryland was the runner-up team.

The panel of five judges represented a diverse cross section of the business community from the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce, CEVA Logistics, Horizon Lines, the Jacksonville Port Authority and Landstar Logistics.

“It was good to see the students taking into consideration today’s global issues while demonstrating innovative and agile solutions,” said Todd Pye, vice president of Logistics Operations, CEVA Logistics. “I see a strong pipeline of future leaders to the logistics industry.”

“The quality of all the participants bodes well for the logistics industry. Their insight and understanding of how logistics plays a vital role in our everyday lives gives me confidence that the future of the logistics industry will be in good hands,” said Michael Breen, the Chamber’s director of international development.

UNF’s Transportation and Logistics Flagship Program offers a unique and rewarding program for students electing to major in transportation and logistics. The program prepares students for challenging careers in supply chain management, international logistics, transportation and physical distribution.

The program has received considerable state, national and international recognition, including being ranked 13^th in the nation by Supply Chain Management Review magazine as well as a “Program of Distinction” and a “Center of Excellence” within the state university system.
