Dr. Aaron Sheehan-Dean, an associate professor of History at the University of North Florida, will provide a Civil War presentation and book signing for his new book the “Concise Historical Atlas of the U.S. Civil War” at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, at Kingsley Plantation. This event is free and open to the public.
Come learn more about how American history meets technology from Sheehan-Dean, who produced each of the 52 maps in this atlas himself. The “Concise Historical Atlas of the U.S. Civil War” presents political and social changes as well as campaign and battle maps.
His book, released by Oxford University Press, contains the only atlas of the Civil War that includes data maps to help explain the key issues about the war beyond campaign and battle maps. It sells for $19.95 and is available at any bookstore or Amazon.com.
Kingsley Plantation is a 60-acre unit of the 46,000-acre Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve in Jacksonville, which is managed by the National Park Service. The public can visit the grounds, which include the oldest standing plantation house in Florida, the kitchen, barn, slave quarters and waterfront.
