Contact: Joanna Norris, Assistant Director
Department of Media Relations and Events
The Women’s Center at the University of North Florida celebrates its milestone 20th anniversary this year. To commemorate this significant moment, the public is invited to a 20th Anniversary Gala on Thursday, Nov. 8, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the University Center on campus. The evening, which includes refreshments and musical entertainment, will highlight the Center’s achievements during the last 20 years. This event is free and open to the public.
Over the course of two decades, the Women’s Center at UNF has grown from a volunteer office with a tiny budget into a compelling and visible force on campus. The staff—now made up of a dynamic mix of full-time and part-time professionals and student assistants—works to impact the University community by bringing challenging programs and top-notch events to campus every semester. Prominent guests brought to UNF by the Women’s Center include Maya Angelou, Ellen Goodman and Nora Roberts, among others.
At the 20th Anniversary Gala, the many accomplishments of the Women’s Center will be toasted by important figures in its formation and growth, including Shirley Webb, co-founder of the UNF Women’s Center and current director of the Jacksonville Women’s Center. Marimba music will be provided by members of the celebrated UNF music program.
The Center provides services to the entire UNF community, including victim advocacy, rape awareness education and events programming. Members of the Jacksonville community are also welcome to call the Center for information and referrals.
