UNF AQUATIC CENTER RECOGNIZED FOR EXCELLENCE
JACKSONVILLE -- UNF’s Aquatic Center has been chosen for a “2002 Excellence in Aquatics Award" by the National Recreation and Park Association.
The 15-year old Center was the only University-based pool in the country selected for this honor. The award was presented recently during NRPA’s National Aquatic Conference in Palm Springs, Calif. Membership in the Association’s Aquatic Branch is composed of facilities operated by municipalities, educational institutions and military bases. One award was presented for each of NPRA’s ten facility classifications.
The Excellence in Aquatics Award is designed to recognize agencies that demonstrate excellence in planning and managing diversified aquatic services. Important factors considered in the judging were: responsiveness to community needs, the quality of services, the ability to overcome challenges, accessibility of services to all, professionalism of staff, effective use of resources, and the promotion of aquatic safety.
“We are very proud to receive this award. I was happy to have the opportunity to showcase our facility at the Conference,” said Associate Director of Recreation, Audrey Gill, who manages the Center.
The award was presented during the opening general session, during which a slide show of the winning facilities was shown. In addition, award recipients provided presentations during a conference session designed to highlight their operations.
