Coggin College of Business

  • The Coggin College was recognized in 2014 by the Princeton Review as an outstanding business college for the eighth year in a row. 

  • The Osprey Financial Group, a student-run investment team founded in 2002 with a $500,000 seed donation, recently eclipsed the $1 million mark. 

  • A Fulbright scholar and professor from Saint Petersburg State University of Service and Economics in Russia chose UNF as his host institution for his Fulbright research. He worked with Coggin’s distinguished faculty on a series of research papers on e-marketing. 

  • The Master of Accountancy Program in the Coggin College of Business at the University of North Florida was named among the Top 30 Affordable Master’s in Accounting Programs by Master’s in Accounting Degrees.

  • UNF has partnered with the South-East Zoo Alliance for Reproduction and Conservation (SEZARC) to breed rare and endangered species at zoos around the country. UNF is the only university in the world that has a partnership with the organization, and the only university to have a working reproductive hormone lab on its campus. 

  • The on-campus Writing Center works with students one-on-one to create individualized strategies to strengthen writing skills and encourage clearer communication skills. 

  • The first class of master’s Music students started in fall 2014. This new degree is the latest result of the investment the University made when it designated the Music Department a Flagship program.

College of Computing, Engineering and Construction 

  • The Orbital Ospreys team, a dynamic cohort of nine CCEC students, was among a select group chosen by NASA from universities across the country to fly their own research experiments aboard the agency’s G Force One aircraft.

  • The dean was recently elected an American Society of Civil Engineering Fellow. The nationally recognized designation requires bearers to have led an important industrial, business, construction, educational, editorial, research or engineering society activity for at least 10 years. 

  • A formal agreement between Vistakon and UNF will provide approximately $600,000 a year for five years to UNF student researchers working on cutting-edge problems with Vistakon. The goal of the agreement is to build a strong, mutually beneficial and long-term relationship between Vistakon and UNF.

  • The Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Coastal and Port Engineering degree program, is now accepting students. The program fills a major need for the region — as well as the country as a whole.

  • Students complete between 900 and 1,000 hours of classroom-based experience as part of their teacher preparation program at UNF.

  • All educator preparation programs in the college are approved by the Florida Department of Education and accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.

  • The new Center for Urban Education and Policy has been active in its mission to bring present and future Jacksonville educators together to help solve education-related needs in the community. 

  • A recent UNF study found that a little fresh air and some Florida sunshine might foster better learning outcomes for kindergarten students. Two graduate student researchers collected observational data on two kindergarten classes from Seaside Community Charter School in Jacksonville Beach. The graduate research assistants were part of an interdisciplinary research team that also included a pair of UNF education professors and an associate professor of public health.
