The current form of IT governance at the University of North Florida has been an evolutionary process started with the Administrative Systems Council (ASC) who was responsible for coordinating information technology work coming from a number of different paths. In 2012, UNF underwent a self-study led by a group of experienced technologists looking for ways to build on solid foundation already within ITS. The group focused on identifying ways ITS could better align with the academic mission and improve service delivery to the faculty, staff, students, and visitors of UNF. The group recommended the creation of a more formalize information technology governance process to be established to help in the evaluation, selection, and prioritization of IT requests being made from across UNF. In addition, the need and of a centralized project management organization to coordinate, evaluate, and facilitate the requests through the governance process was also identified resulting in the establishment of UNF's Project Management Office (PMO).
