What to do Before Orientation

  • Our Food Services business office will have a representative and a dietician available to answer your special dietary needs questions. The office is located on the 2nd floor of Osprey Cafe if you still need information on meal memberships. Before your student begins classes, find out more about policies on their website. Click on Meal Memberships and then FAQs.
  • The staff at Community First Credit Union would like to officially welcome you to the Osprey family! As the only financial institution on campus, they created a special checking account just for students. With a UNF VIP Checking account students will get access to three ATMs on campus, special perks like free tickets to local events, and much more. There is no monthly fee, you can easily send or receive money, and they’ll even make the first $100 deposit to help cover student expenses. Representatives from the Community First UNF Branch will be speaking during orientation about this and other exciting services offered to students. In the meantime, feel free to stop by the Community First branch in the Student Union or email the UNF Branch Manager Joseph Cisneros.

  • Pre-registration for the Bookstore Rental Program: If your student is interested in renting his or her books, direct your student to our rental website

What to expect at UNF Orientation


It will be easy if you are prepared – please take a photo of your license plate or write down the number to enter in the Parking Permit kiosk (located at the entrance to Hicks Hall or at the exits of the parking garages. If you attend on the first day and enter the code your parking permit will be good for two days in the Hicks Hall lot AND any blue spots (2nd, 3rd or 4th floors of both garages). Therefore, you will not have to re-enter a code for the second day. The only parents who will need to enter a code on the second day will be those who did not attend on the first day. Please park nose-in (that is how our spots are monitored). At some of the parking locations, there may be a student available to assist you.

You can drop off your student at the Fountains before driving to Hicks Hall. If your student is parking there or if you park while dropping off your student, a portion of the lot will be blocked off for Orientation guests, and not be ticketed. There will be signs and cones marking the Orientation parking spaces. 

Where to park


Day 1 - Park in the Hicks Hall Parking Lot for Parent check-in and for the first session
Day 2 - Park in the Fine Arts Center Garage, #44 (2nd, 3rd, or 4th floor ONLY)
Parent Sessions will be held in the Andrew Robinson Theater – Follow the A-frame signs from the garage to the theater


Your student will be checking in for Orientation at the Osprey Fountains Residence Hall where students will take their personal items for the overnight stay. The easiest way to get there is to exit on to Kernan Blvd. off of J. Turner Butler (State Road 202). Then you drive past the entrance to UNF and turn left at the Fountains sign. Then follow the large Parent Orientation signs to Hicks Hall off of Kernan Blvd. (4892 1st Coast Tech Pkwy) where you will park for check-in and for your first sessions.

When you check-in, an Admissions Coordinator will let you know if your student has an appointment to complete any requirements during Orientation. These may be scheduled during your Parent Orientation Sessions. If there are two members of your family, one can leave to assist the student and the other can stay for the Parent Sessions. 


Note: Be sure your student has a picture ID for verification when applying for the Osprey 1Card. Medical Compliance will have staff at check-in to receive any immunization forms not already submitted.


Arrived early?
Optional Campus Tour – If you would like to tour the campus while you are attending Orientation, please schedule one online before arriving for Orientation. If you arrive early on day one of your Orientation, we suggest you plan to take the 10 a.m. tour before checking in for Orientation. If you would like to tour the campus at the end of our Orientation, please view the complete listing of times at the Welcome Center.

Orientation Schedule Day 1

2 p.m. - Check-in begins in the lobby of Hicks Hall. You will receive a detailed schedule.
2 p.m. - Meet and Greet with the various departments in the Division of Student Affairs in the Bistro.
3:15 p.m. – Pathways to Success (Financial Aid and paying bills) – Rooms 1420 and 1430
Your day ends after the session. You may enjoy the shops at the nearby St. Johns Town Center or have a relaxing dinner before resting up for another day of Orientation. Chartwells Food Services will be offering an $8 special for parents during all Orientation Days at the Osprey Café this summer. Come as often as you like for lunch and/ or dinner at this rate. All you need to do is to show your lanyard.

Orientation Day 2

Parent Sessions will be held in the Andrew Robinson Theater
Note: If you did not attend on Day 1, please have your license plate number ready to enter at the Parking Permit Kiosk.


8 a.m. – Check-in in the lobby of the Robinson Theater. Coffee will be served. Parent Association Members may pick up their t-shirts at the Parent Association table.
8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Parent Sessions include the, Career Services, managing college expenses, IT Services and the Parents Portal, Safety, Housing/Commuter tips and student engagement.

To end the session, you will complete you evaluation and when you turn it in you will receive your Parent’s Calendar. After your student has registered you can make that last trip to the Bookstore, visit the sample Housing showroom or visit any office where you still have business to complete or you can return to the Fountains to pick up your student’s personal items and leave for home.

Note: To visit the Housing showroom, please meet for the tour at the Housing Office at 1:15 p.m. or 1:45 p.m. Housing is just a short walk from the Robinson Theater. It is between the Theater and the Cafeteria and the entrance faces the lake. Please arrive promptly for the scheduled time.


For your comfort, please note that some of our theaters are cold so you may need a light jacket or sweater. Also, you will be walking around campus so wear comfortable shoes like tennis shoes, not heels or sandals. Also, if you are bringing any guest, send us the name for the name tags.

If you are traveling to Jacksonville, you will need to make arrangements to stay with a family member or you may require a hotel room. Your student will stay in campus housing on the first night of Orientation. If you haven't made a reservation, please support the hotels that partner with the members of the Parents Association:
