Freshman New Student Checklist

There are many things you will need to accomplish to ensure a smooth transition to UNF. This interactive checklist is designed to keep you on time and on track. Items with an astrisk* must be completed prior to attending your scheduled Orientation session.

Before Orientation

  • Register and submit payment for your Orientation session through your myWings account*
  • Fill out your online Housing and Residence Life contract through myHousing and pay the $300 prepayment.
    • Utilize the Housing and Residence Life Roommate Search System 
  • Select a fall meal plan and if required pay the $300 pre-payment on your myWings account. All first-year students living on campus are required to have a meal plan. One will be added to your account if you do not select one. 
    • Starting in summer and living on campus? Purchase a summer meal plan in addition to the fall.
  • Fill out and submit the immunization form and submit a copy of your immunization records to our Medical Compliance office*
  • Make a plan to cover the cost of college
  • Submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by visiting
    • Summer Admits file BOTH the 2017-2018 FAFSA and the 2018-2019 FAFSA
    • Fall Admits file the 2018-2019 FAFSA
    • If you are expecting to receive Florida Bright Futures be sure to complete your Florida Financial Aid Application prior to High School Graduation. Be sure to list UNF as your school of attendance (UNF School Code: 161)

  • Complete the Campus Clarity training in your myWings, located on the Student Tools box.
  • Make sure all registration holds are removed from your account. You can find them under the student tab on your myWings, click “Student Holds.”* (If using the new myWings, select the My Holds box)
  • Connect with other new Ospreys before you arrive through our Facebook Page 
  • Download, sign, and submit the Orientation liability waiver form prior to attending your scheduled Orientation event - Liability Form*

  • Review UNF’s website and write down any specific questions you want to ask while at New Student Orientation
  • Review UNF's safety resources from the University Police Department and our Anti-Hazing Initiative
  • If attending an overnight orientation program and you require accessible housing, please contact us at (904) 620-1722 as soon as possible so that necessary arrangements can be made
  • Complete the Writing Placement Test prior to your Orientation by logging into myWings and accessing the test through Canvas. 
  • Plan to take a proctored UNF Math Placement test prior to or during your Orientation. Call (904) 620-1722 for more details.

During Orientation

  • Attend all scheduled UNF New Student Orientation sessions
  • Know your student identification number and myWings password. Hint: your student ID is typically on our correspondences and starts with the letter "N"
  • Meet with an academic advisor
  • Get your UNF Osprey1 ID card – make sure to bring a government issued photo ID
  • Register for your courses and leave with your first UNF course schedule
  • Meet people who can be a resource for you while on campus
  • Meet with your First Year Experience (FYE) Mentor, a current UNF student committed to your success
  • Ask questions, be open to new ideas, make friends and have fun being an Osprey!

After Orientation

  • Check your UNF Osprey email account daily. Email is UNF’s primary form of communication
  • Complete the New Student Orientation survey emailed to you after you attend
  • Purchase a Parking Permit – You can do this on your myWings account, 24 hours after you register for courses
  • Submit all final academic transcripts to the Office of Admissions
  • Contact your roommate to plan for move-in day
  • Visit the UNF Housing and Residence Life website and watch for important move-in information
  • Be sure you have reviewed your financial aid award in myWings and accepted aid that is offered.   
  • View you UNF bill in myWings and pay any balance owed by the due date. 
  • Stop by the UNF Bookstore and purchase your textbooks
