Join the Swoop Squad
The Swoop Squad is, first and foremost, friends, students, and ambassadors of the University of North Florida. Our aim is to aid prospective students in making important college decisions and ease their transition in becoming full-fledged Ospreys! It is our goal to meet the mission of UNF with professionalism and a commitment to excellence while having fun.
Position Description
The Swoop Squad is an elite organization rich with tradition and tied to life-long friends. The application process allows us to get to know you better. The Swoop Squad is not the right fit for everyone…it takes a special person to join the squad. It takes hard work, dedication, school spirit, teamwork, a great attitude, and charisma! As a Swoop Squad member you will be responsible for recruiting and helping new ospreys and their families transition to UNF. In addition to improving self-confidence, communication skills, and leadership abilities, Swoop Squad members are some of the most well-informed students at UNF.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Serving as a tour guide showcasing UNF
- Serving as an event leader during various Admissions campus events
- Serving as a team player with a positive and enthusiastic attitude
- Office work (phones, e-mails, data entry, etc)
Other responsibilities include making campus and orientation bags, helping with new student registration, and assisting with special projects.
Additionally, Swoop Squad members must be prepared to speak in front of large groups, facilitate small group discussions, and be prepared for multiple early morning events. There is some slight heavy lifting and a great deal of walking around. A Swoop Squad member is energetic (no matter the day or time) and is not shy about initiating conversations with complete strangers.
How to Become a Member
Every Swoop Squad member enters the squad as a volunteer as they train and ready themselves to be one of UNF's elite tour guides. Volunteers are also required to complete a mandatory training class that meets once a week for one and a half hours. Volunteers are required to earn at least 100 hours before they are eligible for any paid leadership positions on the Squad.
Volunteer hours are completed by participating in a variety of events:
- Weekday Campus Tours
- Special Large Group Campus Tours and Events
- UNF Graduation Ceremonies
- Open House Events
- Saturday Tour Events
- Working in the Swoop Squad Office
Additionally, all training hours are included as part of your Volunteer hours.
The Swoop Squad hires directly from volunteer members of the Squad as open leadership positions become available.
