SUBJECT: OspreyCard Policy
OBJECTIVE & PURPOSE:
To provide a convenient means for identifying individuals who are entitled to utilize the facilities, activities, and services of the University of North Florida. An ID card is nontransferable and is only for use by the individual whose name appears on the card. Misuse of an ID card may result in revocation of the card and disciplinary action. The OspreyCard Committee reviews and recommends policies for the issuance of ID cards.

POLICY:
The UNF OspreyCard is a Photo ID Card which serves as a membership card entitling enrolled students and employees to a variety of services, events, and campus resources. Currently, a valid OspreyCard is required to access the Computer Lab, the Fitness Center, the Aquatics Center and to attend Athletic & SGA Events. The OspreyCard also serves as a Library Card when checking out books.Students must be currently enrolled prior to obtaining an OspreyCard. Faculty and Staff must be currently employed prior to obtaining and OspreyCard. A one-time photo fee of $10.00 is payable at the Cashier’s Window or in the ID Card Office, Building 1, Room 1600. Replacement cards are $15.00.
Cards are valid as long as the student is enrolled or as long as the employee is employed.

Definitions:
“Identification Card (ID)” or “OspreyCard” refers to a photo identification card in a specific design, which is encoded with data including a signature stripe.
“University of North Florida Service System” includes a variety of means by which the University provides services to its students, faculty, staff, alumni and guests. The delivery of services may be provided manually or with automated on- or –off line systems for food services, library services, admission to events, use of facilities, and a variety of applications to be identified in the future. The University may direct, authorize and delete specific University service systems honoring the OspreyCard within the limits of available technology and in the interest of efficient University operations.
“Validation” or “activation” refers to the process by which cardholders have satisfied the University’s financial and registration obligations and are entitled to access an appropriate University of North Florida service system.
Issuance of Identification Cards
Different types of cards are issued to members of the University community depending on the nature of their affiliation with the University. Students, faculty and staff members are required to have an OspreyCard. By accepting and using the OspreyCard or a University guest card, an individual agrees to abide by all rules, regulations and policies pertaining to card use at the University. The OspreyCard belongs to the University for the use and benefit of the cardholder. If misuse occurs, the OspreyCard can be revoked and reclaimed by the University. All OspreyCard holders upon acceptance of the card agree to return the card if requested by the University.Students who have been issued an OspreyCard at registration are to retain their card for subsequent registrations. The University of North Florida services systems will validate or activate the card at subsequent registrations after all appropriate tuition and fees have been paid. Students that are employed temporarily as part-time instructors will not be issued faculty ID cards, but will use their student OspreyCard.
Faculty and staff ID Cards are issued to permanent full-time staff and to full-time and part-time faculty.Purpose and Limitations
The OspreyCard provides a convenient means for identifying individuals who are entitled to utilize certain University of North Florida service systems based upon the cardholder’s relationship to the University. When utilizing the University of North Florida service system, individuals shall be required to present their OspreyCard as the approved means of showing authorization to use the service and to authorize charges and transactions associated with the use of the services.Possession of an OspreyCard or University guest card does not necessarily relieve the holder from paying any admission fees or service charges that may apply to a given facility, activity or service. The OspreyCard is nontransferable and only for the use of the individual whose name appears on the card. The physical card is neither representation nor proof of any position or standing as a student, faculty, or staff member of the University, or other representative thereof, until validated in a University of North Florida service system.
Card Revocation
Misuse of the OspreyCard, including presenting another person’s card as one’s own, falsification of information to obtain an OspreyCard, alteration of the picture or information printed or encoded on the card, and/or falsification of records which served as the basis for issuance of the OspreyCard, may result in revocation of the card and/or disciplinary action, up to and including criminal prosecution, as appropriate under the circumstances and based upon the relationship of the cardholder to the University.
Policies
Policies for the use of the OspreyCard and fees for its issuance are set by the Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance and administered by the OspreyCard Office within the Office of Auxiliary Services. Uses and operations (including re-encoding of data) of the OspreyCard are governed by the University’s current Policies and Procedures.
