General Information

Library Card Information

All borrowing transactions, requests for library services, and off-campus access to electronic resources require a UNF Osprey 1Card.

Borrowing library materials

Access Services Desk, (904) 620-2615 or lib-cadm@unf.edu. The central circulation desk supervises the general circulating collections, all fines and replacement charges, and general circulation services. Electronic forms are available for renewing items, placing holds, and requesting information.

Faculty Loan Period

For general circulating items the normal loan period for faculty/A&P is 18 weeks which correlates to an academic term. More restrictive loan periods and privileges may apply for some collections. You must present your UNF Osprey 1Card to borrow books. Overdue fines and replacement charges apply to all borrowers, including faculty. Regular fines are billed only when they accrue to $2.00 (or more) per item (a 7-day fine-waiver grace period). When eligible, renewals are accepted either at the Library's Access Services Desk or by using the online renewal service.

Course Reserves

Access Services Department - (904) 620-2615 - lib-cadm@unf.edu. Course reserves collections of assigned readings and course lecture notes are supported within prevailing copyright and license restrictions. With the Library's assistance when requested, permissions, payment of royalties and fees, and copyright compliance are the responsibility of the requesting faculty member.

Well before each semester begins, the Library requests that faculty turn in a request for required materials to ensure that all materials will be available when the semester starts. To reserve materials, complete a Course Reserve Material Request form. Loan periods are limited to 2 hours, 1 day, 3 days, and 7 days. Overdue fines are $1.00 per hour for hourly checkout and $1.00 per day for daily checkout. All items are automatically removed at the end of each term. The request process must be repeated for each term of intended use. All orders are processed on a first-come first-served basis. Since copyright compliance must be signed by the requesting faculty member, electronic forms are not available for this service.

Requests that the Library purchase resources

Books, New Orders -- Acquisitions Department -- (904) 620-2550 -- electronic order form -- submit forms or printed catalogs: ATTN: Library Acquisitions, Bldg. 12/1002. If the requestor prefers not to use web forms, the Acquisitions Department requires that either special request cards be used (available from the Department), or that clearly marked, printed bibliographies or publishers' catalogs be submitted. Please put your name and academic department on each request and supply as complete bibliographic information as possible. If the Library's monographic collections need development in your subject specialty, please let us know, and we will be happy to work with you to the extent possible. For additional information, contact Robb Waltner, Head of Acquisitions.

Subscriptions and Standing Orders -- Serials Department -- (904) 620-2550 -- Electronic order form. Library Serials Department, Bldg 12/1005. Requests for journals, annuals, business services, electronic accesses, and other materials requiring an ongoing committment for their acquisition are carefully evaluated by Library Faculty, and a very limited number of new titles are ordered each academic year, usually in the late fall. Because of the extreme scrutiny applied by the Library to all new requests for these types of acquisitions, it is extremely important for faculty to supply, in writing, an explanation of how a given title, or list of titles, supports the requestor's teaching or research. All requests -- for titles or for further information -- should be submitted to Vicki Stanton.

Audio-Visual Media and Curriculum Materials -- Media Department -- (904) 620-2912. Use electronic order form or send written requests to: Library Media Department, 12/1013. Requests for the acquisition of compact discs, videos, and audio-visual materials of all kinds, in addition to K-12 educational materials such as specimen textbook sets, kits, and childrens' books should be requested after consulting with Diane Kazlauskas, Head, Media Resources Department.

Thesis/Dissertation Information

As required, two copies of theses/dissertations completed by UNF graduate students are kept in the Library: one in Special Collections (non-circulating) and the other in the General Collection (circulating). The "Thesis Deposit Policy and Guide to Thesis Preparation" (available at the Reference Desk) defines the policies and procedures. Submission, binding, and signoff is done through the Library's Serials Department, 12/2005, (904) 620-2550.
