WELCOME!
This guide is intended to acquaint you with our building, departments, collections and services. The Library is equipped and staffed to provide you with all the services common to a large research library: reference, general information, bibliographic guidance and instruction, online library research databases, Internet research, interlibrary loans, audiovisual and media resources, and microformat facilities.
PUBLIC SERVICES
Staff can help you find basic information as well as lead you to sources for in-depth research. Training in use of Library electronic resources is available. Electronic indexes to articles in research journals are found in Reference. Librarians can assist you with database selection and formulation of search queries. (Print indexes are kept in the Periodicals Section, 3rd floor.)
Documents collections consist of United States government
documents, Florida documents and Jacksonville documents. In addition,
there is an extensive collection of maps and atlases from many
government as well as private publishers.
Newspapers, magazines and journals in print and in microformat are available in Periodicals. Copy machines that copy paper as well as microfiche or microfilm are available.
Major collections include the Eartha M. M. White Papers, John E. Mathews, Jr. Papers, and Arthur N. Sollee, Sr. Papers. The Archives collection is the repository of significant University publications and records that document its history and activities.

TECHNICAL SERVICES
The Technical Services Division supports the mission of the Library by acquiring, organizing, processing and preserving information in various formats. It ensures that information needed by the University community is acquired and made accessible in an efficient, cost-effective and timely manner.
Technical Services consists of three Departments: Acquisitions, Cataloging and Serials/Preservation.
The Acquisitions Department handles the ordering
and receiving of all books and media. We are also responsible for
processing new materials for the shelves once they are cataloged.
The Cataloging Department has primary responsibility for organization and access to the Library's collections.
The Serials Department is responsible for the selection, ordering, receipt and cataloging of all journals, annuals, business services, electronic indexes and full text journals.
LIS1001 is a credit course designed to acquaint students with traditional library tools, such as the Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature, and with the latest in research technology (CD-ROM, online, and Internet, etc.).
