The Library offers over 200 research databases and over 13,000 electronic journals through its local area network and Internet connections. Over 50,000 electronic books are also available. Most resources are available to current students, faculty, and staff from home computers.
The Library subscribes to Central Search which allows searching of many databases from a central search screen. The Access Services Department administers the circulation of library materials, media resources, course reserves, stack maintenance, interlibrary loan, and accounts receivable. In addition to specific areas of responsibility, Access Services Department staff is responsible for opening and closing the building, and monitoring adherence to house rules and the general safety and security of the building and collections.
If the Library does not own a book or periodical article you need, the material may be ordered for you from another library or source through the Interlibrary Loan Network. This highly subsidized service is available only to current UNF faculty, students and staff. Other borrowers and researchers may use this service through their own educational institution or through the public library system. Allow at least two weeks delivery. Charges may be applicable. Request forms are available at the main Circulation Desk.
The Technical Services Division supports the mission of the Library by acquiring, organizing, processing and preserving information in various formats. It ensures that information needed by the University community is acquired and made accessible in an efficient, cost-effective and timely manner.
Technical Services consists of three Departments: Acquisitions, Cataloging and Serials/Preservation.
The Acquisitions Department handles the ordering and receiving of all books and media. We are also responsible for processing new materials for the shelves once they are cataloged.
The Cataloging Department has primary responsibility for organization and access to the Library's collections. Telephone number -- 620-2551.
The Serials Department is responsible for the selection, ordering, receipt and cataloging of all journals, annuals, business services, electronic indexes and full text journals. Telephone number -- 620-2550.
LIS1001 is a credit course designed to acquaint students with traditional library tools, such as the Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature, and with the latest in research technology (CD-ROM, online, and Internet, etc.).
