Linking to Articles using the Library Proxy
- Most databases provide a PURL (persistent URL) or DOI (digital object identifier) for articles. This means the link will always be good no matter how long ago you accessed the article. The document URL or the DOI will almost always be on the full database record.
- Do not use the URL that you see in the Internet address bar. It is not permanent.
- You may use either the PURL or the DOI to link directly to full text articles in Blackboard with no copyright restrictions.
- To provide off campus access, you must prepend the library's proxy URL to the PURL or DOI.
This automatically prompts log in and restricts access to UNF students, faculty and staff.

Linking to Articles Using the Article Linker URL
- The Article Linker URL is quick and easy to use to force login from
off campus.
- Click on the link at the bottom right of an Article Linker page
and copy the URL that is presented to you.
- The link in Blackboard will return to the Article Linker page with the
link to full text.
- Log in is forced when off campus, so copyright is not an issue.
RefWorks
Finding the full text if you already have a citation
- Enter as much information as you have. You don't need the entire article title, just the first few words.
- Sometimes you will get to the list of volumes and issues and you will have
to dig down to the article level. If all the metadata is not there, it gets
as close as it can.
- Remember that many of the very current articles will not be online yet.
Some journals get them in immediately, some not so soon.
- This will tell you if we have the journal electronically and which database
has it.
- Note the coverage dates. Some coverage is sporadic.
- If you have the volume and issue number, you can get to the article fairly easily.
