There are thousands of books in the public domain (out of copyright) that have been digitized and are freely available through the Internet. The collection is growing constantly.
These links take you to major collection sites. A few of the sites will have restricted books. For example, the University of Virginia has some books that are only available to their students - but many are freely available to everyone.

The University Libraries of Florida's public universities contain, in addition to book and serial collections, invaluable research materials concerning the history of Florida and its citizens.
