Other Ebook Collections

There are thousands of books in the public domain (out of copyright) that have been digitized and are freely available through the Internet. The collection is growing constantly.

These links take you to major collection sites. A few of the sites will have restricted books. For example, the University of Virginia has some books that are only available to their students - but many are freely available to everyone.

  • Alex Catalogue of Electronic Texts

    Collection of public domain documents from American and English literature as well as Western philosophy.

  • Banned Books Online

    University of Pennsylvania guide to banned books available online.

  • Berkeley Digital Library SunSITE

    The Digital Library SunSITE is building a collection of digital texts that can be read online, printed, or downloaded for further study.

  • English Online Resources

    University of Virginia Electronic Text Center collection.

  • Florida Heritage Collection

    The University Libraries of Florida's public universities contain, in addition to book and serial collections, invaluable research materials concerning the history of Florida and its citizens. These materials include family papers and records, diaries, letters, business records, maps, photographs, and other materials that are unique and important for historical research.

  • Google Books

    Search the full text of books to find ones that interest you and learn where to buy or borrow them. Some are full text online, some you can just read parts of. This is part of Google's book scanning project.

  • International Children's Digital Library

    The collection includes over 3,000 books in 49 languages collected by the International Children's Digital Library Foundation, a non-profit corporation.

  • Internet Archives -- Texts

    The Open-Access Text Archive. This collection is open to the community for the contribution of any type of text, many licensed using Creative Commons licenses.
  • Internet Classics Archive

    The more famous and some lesser known authors of Greek and Roman literature.

  • Internet Public Library

    Links to many online book collections.

  • Library of Southern Literature

    University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The collection documents the riches and diversity of Southern experience as presented in one hundred of its most important literary works.

  • On-Line Books Page

    Founded and edited by John Mark Ockerbloom a digital library planner and research at the University of Pennsylvania. He is soley responsible for the content of the site which is hosted by the University of Pennsylvania Library.
  • Perseus Digital Library

    Department of the Classics, Tufts University. An evolving digital library whose primary goal is to bring a wide range of source materials to as large an audience as possible.

    Major collection of online books.

  • Read Print

    Free online books library for students, teachers, and the classic enthusiast.

  • Victorian Women Writers Project

    University of Indiana collection.

  • World eBook Library

    The World eBook Library Foundation is a global coordinated effort to preserve and disseminate classic works of literature, serials, bibliographies, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and other reference works in a number of languages and countries around the world. The consortia provides both free and enhanced membership accesses.
