HOW TO FIND DOIs

APA and Turabian citation styles now require a DOI as part of the citation.

Use the following tools to find DOIs

Use this tool to find a DOI if one is not available on the full text of a record.

Use this tool to copy and paste a list of references into a search form and have CrossRef search for all the DOIs it can find.

Not every article will have a DOI. If one cannot be found, see this guide to find out how to cite an article that does not have a DOI.

What is a DOI?

Digital Object Identifier - a string of alphanumeric characters that provide a permanent link to a digital journal article or other digital object. Here is more information.

What is CrossRef?

CrossRef provides a way to link citations across publishers. Here is more information. Here is a flash movie with good information.

To Link to an article Using a DOI

If you have a DOI, you can put this in front of it and link straight to the article.
http://dx.doi.org/

Here's an example. Just copy and paste the following URL in your browser. http://dx.doi.org/10.1111/j.1467-7709.2008.00752.x

If you want to link to an article from off campus, you should put this in front of the DOI.
