General Collection Stacks

The word "stacks" may conjure up images of books piled one on top of the other, but in library lingo it refers to the rows and rows of shelves where books are shelved. In the UNF Library, books that can be checked out are housed on the 4th floor in the General Collection Stacks.

This collection of materials occupies the majority of the space on the floor and contains over 400,000 volumes covering nearly any subject you can think of. Items are arranged on the shelf using the Library of Congress Classification System, which groups materials in subject classifications. What this means for you as a researcher is that once you know the call number of just one book on a topic of interest to you, you can go the 4th floor stacks, find the book, and browse the same shelf area for similar or related materials. Everything you find you can then check out.

The key to finding the right call numbers is the library's WebLUIS catalog.
